Course structure & itinerary

To achieve the Level 3 certificate you will need to complete all of the following:

 Five days of training in theory and practice to cover:

  • Planning an Introduction to Forest School programme
  • Learning and development at a Forest School programme
  • Practical skills for a Forest School programme
  • The Woodland Environment
  • Delivery of an Introduction to Forest School programme

Separate skills days to develop and assess practical skills and to discuss progress.

 Three portfolio development days to give you an opportunity for feedback, assessment and completion of portfolio coursework. (Portfolio to be completed within 12 months of start date).

 Assessment of delivery at one of at least 6 Introduction to Forest School sessions to be planned and delivered by you.

To achieve the Level 2 Award you will need to complete all of the following:

Four days of practical activity and discussion covering:

  • Understanding the Forest School approach to learning
  • Identification of woodland species
  • The impact of Forest School on the woodland  environment
  • Understanding hazards & risk at Forest School

 We will be introducing fire lighting, tool use, risk assessing, wildlife ID, outdoor play and sustainable use of woodland through a mix of hands on activities, games and crafts.

You will also need to support the delivery of at least three consecutive Forest School sessions run by a Level 3 Qualified Forest School Leader and independently complete your observations of this session.
